VRCC Annual Mtg - Recap

We had a great turnout for our annual meeting a few weeks ago at View Ridge Elementary.
I’m encouraged that so many of our neighbors are willing to step up and get involved!
This email is going out to all of you that were at our annual meeting or have attended a VRCC Safety meeting in the last two years.

  • I’m attaching our meeting agenda showing our discussing topics.

  • Thank you Ann Forrest for talking to us about emergency preparedness in case of a disaster in our city.
    • I’ve attached Ann’s contact info if anyone has more questions or wants Ann to help you and your block be prepared.
    • Ann Forrest - 360-550-2234 - aaforrest@hotmail.com

  • We also discussed our current VR neighborhood initiative - Safe Streets for all.
    • I appreciate the feedback on the current state of our need for street safety improvements especially along the NE 70th St corridor.
    • Several neighbors mentioned the organization Feet First as a possible partner to help us achieve our safe streets initiative.
      • I’ve reached out and will set up a meeting, thank you!
    • We just set a meeting for this Thursday the 7th with CM Pacheco’s chief of staff, Noah An, to discuss city budget support for our NE 70th St project improvements, stay tuned…
    • We will communicate through this direct email with updates on our progress to complete our saftey improvements along NE 70th St.

  • Communication – Neighborhood outreach will be a top priority of the VRCC moving into 2020.
    • Several neighbors mentioned that our committee, the View Ridge Community Council, is not known by most of our VR neighborhood.
      • Several ideas on how to better communicate –
        • Get list of Block Watch Captains from SPD and disseminate info through the captains to each of their blocks.
        • Direct mailers like the postcard for Party in the Park with the Annual mtg notice on the back. Newsletter?
        • Social media, i.e. Facebook and Nextdoor
        • Online Blog for the View Ridge neighborhood – Andrew Taylor has agreed to help me set up a blog or something similar to communicate. Thank you!
        • Look for more communication coming from our current process of direct emails and social media along with some new routes online and direct mailers.

  • Election of Officers for 2020 –
    • We asked for volunteers to fill our official committee spots and the following we’re approved with a unanimous vote of the meeting attendees –
      • President – Robert Johnson
      • Treasurer – Liz Harris
      • Secretary – Ruth Windhover

Please feel free to reach out directly to me with any questions, concerns or comments.
Thank you,

Robert B Johnson | President VRCC + Safety Committee
